Sustaining a culture of workplace safety in energy industry operations requires a comprehensive, systemic approach. At Badak LNG, this is achieved by strengthening leadership roles at all levels and consistently implementing behavior-based programs.
The company routinely monitors performance using leading and lagging indicators, conducts incident investigations as a means of learning from events, and performs periodic management reviews. To ensure the involvement of all personnel, various initiatives such as Safety Leadership Engagement, Management Walkthroughs, and the provision of rewards, recognition, and consequences for workers are consistently prioritized. These steps also include strengthening collaboration with business partners and stakeholders to ensure uniform safety standards across all refinery operational areas.
For these initiatives, Badak LNG was awarded a 5-star (Platinum) rating at the WSO Indonesia Safety Culture Award (WISCA) 2026. The award ceremony took place at the Bidakara Hotel in Jakarta on Friday, May 8, 2026. At this year’s event, Badak LNG swept five awards at once: Platinum Level 5, Concerned ESG, Top Performance Zero Accident, and the Best Trophy—a new award category introduced this year. Additionally, Badak LNG President Director & CEO Achmad Khoiruddin was awarded the Concerned CEO Top Leadership Award.
These awards, presented by the World Safety Organization (WSO), recognize the effectiveness of the company’s OSH management, which encompasses management policies, safety leadership, and strategic aspects such as environmental management and occupational health. The WISCA evaluation team conducted a thorough assessment, ranging from document verification to Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), to ensure alignment between the system and its actual implementation in the field.
This achievement aligns with the Company’s occupational safety record, which has been maintained for over 19 years. From December 8, 2006, to March 31, 2026, Badak LNG has successfully maintained 135 million safe working hours without accidents resulting in lost workdays. This consistency reflects the implementation of an OSH culture across all operational lines.
Feri Sulistyo Nugroho, Director & COO of Badak LNG, stated that winning these five awards marks the Company’s highest achievement to date in its participation in the WISCA event. “Alhamdulillah, this achievement is a blessing from God Almighty and the result of the hard work of all employees, partners, and their families. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Management, I would like to express my gratitude for the support of all employees in contributing to keeping the plant safe,” he said.
He also emphasized that the most important aspect for the Company at this time is consistency in maintaining the operational safety of the plant. “This achievement is not the finish line, but rather motivation for us to continue behaving, thinking, and acting with safety in mind. We must make safety a culture in every action we take,” he added.
The WISCA 2026 achievement adds to the list of accolades received by the company, following a similar award in 2025. Beyond workplace safety, Badak LNG’s operations also align with environmental management, earning the company its 15th consecutive PROPER Gold rating this year. These achievements are part of the company’s long journey in managing safe refinery operations that are in harmony with environmental sustainability.
