More Than Just a Contest: Badak LNG’s Mission Challenge Brings Residents of the Complex Together

Bontang – The festive atmosphere of the 81st Independence Day celebration of the Republic of Indonesia was palpable at the Badak LNG complex. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, residents of the Badak LNG Complex—comprising RTs 1 through 12 in Satimpo Village, South Bontang—along with workers and their families, enthusiastically participated in a series of Independence Day competitions held at the Badak LNG Futsal Field.

Under the theme “Mission Challenge,” this year’s competition featured a relay format involving participants from various age groups, ranging from toddlers to adults. Each team had to complete a series of missions in sequence to reach the finish line and earn points for their respective RTs.

Cheers and support from residents filled the air throughout the competition. Relying not only on speed, participants were also required to work together, maintain teamwork, apply their knowledge, and overcome every challenge presented.

The excitement was heightened as each RT brought a strong drive to win the rotating championship title. After RT7 claimed the title the previous year, this year’s competition was once again fiercely contested, with RT3 ultimately securing the rotating championship title.

“The most appealing aspect of this event isn’t just about winning or losing, but how residents, employees, and families can come together, interact, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere outside their daily routines. It is this spirit of togetherness that we aim to continue fostering,” said Busori, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications & Services at Badak LNG.

In addition to featuring various competitions, the event was enlivened by the presence of local Bontang SMEs, which offered a wide variety of culinary options for participants and visitors. The participation of these SMEs also served as part of an effort to create broader opportunities for interaction with the community and to support local businesses.
