BONTANG – Badak LNG hosted an industry visit from the Chemistry Student Association of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Mulawarman University on Friday (October 16, 2026). This event was organized as part of a collaboration between the company and the university to facilitate field learning and introduce students to the industry. The visit, attended by dozens of students and their accompanying faculty members, aimed to introduce the operations of the oil and gas industry, particularly the process of converting natural gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG).

During the event, all participants received a comprehensive presentation covering the Company’s general profile, the operational activities of the LNG plant, and the SHEQS (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Security) workplace safety standards. Participants were also taken on a tour of production support facilities and given a chance to observe the office complex and community areas to demonstrate how the LNG industry operates in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem.

Not only that, participants were also given the opportunity to engage in discussions with Badak LNG staff, allowing them to gain a more comprehensive understanding. Through these discussions, the students not only learned about the technical processes of natural gas processing but also gained a real-world perspective on the work culture at Badak LNG and the operational challenges within the LNG industry.

In his remarks, Syuhril, Acting Manager of CSR & Relations at Badak LNG, noted that the synergy between the education sector and industry plays a mutually reinforcing role in preparing the younger generation to face the challenges of the workforce. Theoretical learning in the classroom can be reinforced by giving students the opportunity to see firsthand how the knowledge they’ve acquired is applied in the workplace.

“Badak LNG believes that being open to industrial visits is part of the Company’s commitment to providing learning opportunities and sharing knowledge with students. Through this activity, we aim to demonstrate how operational activities are conducted and how a safety culture is consistently implemented to ensure the reliability of the plant and the preservation of the surrounding environment,” said Syuhril.

Dr. Chairul Saleh, M.Si, a faculty advisor from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Mulawarman University, also expressed his appreciation for the company’s openness in introducing the industry to students. “This industrial visit was attended by 59 chemistry students from FMIPA and is part of the enrichment program for the Industrial Chemistry and Industrial Management courses. Through this visit, we hope that students will not only gain academic insights in the classroom but also directly understand the gas processing process on an industrial scale as preparation before entering the workforce in the future,” he said.

This industrial visit also represents the Company’s effort to provide students with a glimpse into the working world. This initiative simultaneously strengthens Badak LNG’s synergy with higher education institutions in East Kalimantan in preparing a competent and well-rounded younger generation to enter the workforce.
