The implementation of digital innovations and the strengthening of a strong SHEQS culture have earned Badak LNG national recognition. At the 2026 Indonesia QHSE & Sustainability Award (IQSA) held in Jakarta on Friday, August 28, Badak LNG received five awards at once for its consistent management of QHSE aspects and business sustainability. This marks the third consecutive year that Badak LNG has been honored at this event, starting in 2024.
The implementation of the SHEQS culture at Badak LNG has a long track record. Beginning with a Lost Time Incident (LTI) in 2006—which served as a basis for evaluation and learning—the company has continuously refined its occupational safety management and systems. These lessons served as a catalyst to strengthen the company’s commitment and drive a cultural shift toward safety across all organizational levels. As a result, the company has maintained a 19-year record of safe operations without any work-related accidents resulting in an LTI.
To reinforce the SHEQS culture in the workplace, Badak LNG has also developed various digital technology-based innovations through its continuous improvement program (CIP). SHEQ Lead Specialist MS Anto Yamashita explained that these innovations are developed collaboratively to address on-site needs. “These innovations are not only about implementing technology but also about addressing on-site needs, streamlining work processes, enhancing risk control, and providing added value to the company,” he said.
The systems developed include a suite of digital applications ranging from risk monitoring to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). All SHEQS activities are integrated and can be monitored via mobile devices.
In addition to technological innovation, the success in maintaining the SHEQS culture is also influenced by leadership, exemplary conduct, the involvement of all Badak LNG employees, and the implementation of a SHEQS Management System that is appropriate and tailored to the company’s business characteristics. Badak LNG management actively participates by setting a direct example in the field, which is then translated into systems, programs, and behaviors across all levels of the company.
In recognition of the Company’s efforts described above, Badak LNG was awarded several honors, which were accepted directly by Badak LNG Director & COO Feri Sulistyo Nugroho. The awards included the IQSA 2026 5-Star Rating, The Best Innovation in QHSE and Sustainability in Business 2026, and The Best QHSE Team and Safety Culture 2026.
In addition to recognizing the organization, the event also presented leadership awards. Badak LNG President Director & CEO Achmad Khoiruddin was honored as “The Best CEO in QHSE Excellence 2026,” while Badak LNG Director & COO Feri Sulistyo Nugroho received the title of “The Best QHSE Director 2026.”
After receiving the awards, Feri Sulistyo Nugroho stated that the five awards serve as motivation to continue improving the plant’s safety performance. “Given that the energy sector involves high risks, these awards also serve as motivation for all employees and management to pursue improvements. This achievement also demonstrates that Badak LNG’s efforts are on the right track toward integrating innovation with plant safety performance,” he said.
He added that the principle “Good Safety is Good Business” has been implemented in Badak LNG’s plant operations. “This principle serves as our guiding principle, which we hope will help Badak LNG’s business thrive and grow. Moreover, moving forward, Badak LNG plans to reactivate the plant, so safety performance, reliability, and production must be improved to ensure that operational excellence is truly achieved and sustained,” he concluded.
The achievement of IQSA 2026 complements Badak LNG’s track record in maintaining the plant’s operational reliability and excellence, with SHEQS aspects as the top priority.
